Konami Eyes Annual Releases for the Silent Hill Franchise
By Chaz Walker
Konami appears determined to keep the fog rolling in. Following the strong reception of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill f, the company is now openly discussing a future where new entries in the legendary horror franchise arrive on a near‑annual basis.
This insight comes from a recent year‑end feature by Japanese gaming outlet 4Gamer, which surveyed nearly 200 developers about their goals heading into 2026. Among those interviewed was Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto, who explained that Konami views the franchise as being firmly “back on track” and is aiming to maintain steady momentum moving forward.
According to Okamoto, the back‑to‑back releases of Silent Hill 2 in October 2024 and Silent Hill f in September 2025 demonstrated that a consistent development rhythm is possible. With both announced and unannounced projects in various stages of production, Konami’s internal goal is to deliver approximately one new Silent Hill title each year. While Okamoto acknowledged that such an ambitious pace presents challenges, he emphasized his commitment to keeping the franchise active and continuously engaging for fans.
Beyond release cadence, Konami is also looking to broaden the series’ thematic horizons. In a separate interview with Inverse, Okamoto discussed the possibility of exploring horror rooted in cultures outside Japan. He noted that regions such as Central and South America could offer fertile ground through local spiritual and shamanistic traditions, while countries like Italy, Russia, and South Korea bring their own distinct belief systems that could shape future entries. Expanding into these cultural spaces, he suggested, would allow Silent Hill to evolve while retaining its psychological core.
Of the projects revealed during Konami’s major franchise showcase several years ago, the only title yet to see release is Silent Hill: Townfall, developed by No Code Games in partnership with Annapurna Interactive. While Konami has not confirmed a launch window, a 2026 release would neatly align with the company’s stated goal of delivering one Silent Hill experience per year.
With games, films, and experimental projects all contributing to the franchise’s resurgence, Silent Hill seems poised to remain a constant presence in the horror landscape rather than a long‑dormant memory.
