Ready or Not 2: Here I Come Locks in an R Rating Ahead of March Release

By Chaz Walker

Six years after Ready or Not became a surprise horror-comedy hit, Samara Weaving is officially back for more deadly games. The upcoming sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, has now received an R rating from the Motion Picture Association, confirming that the follow-up is leaning fully into blood-soaked chaos.

Originally announced last year with Escape Room director Adam Robitel attached, the sequel has since returned to its roots. Original filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett have stepped back into the director’s chairs, promising fans that the sequel will be “an absolute banger.” Audiences will find out for themselves when the film hits theaters on March 27.

Before its wide release, fans attending the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival in March will get an early chance to see the film.

A Quick Ready or Not Refresher

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are members of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence, which they formed with Justin Martinez and Chad Villella in 2011. The original Ready or Not was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy and starred Weaving as Grace, a newlywed whose wedding night takes a horrifying turn when her wealthy in-laws force her into a ritualistic game of survival.

The film blended razor-sharp humor with brutal violence, quickly earning cult-favorite status. Busick and Murphy have returned to write the script for the sequel.

A Bigger, Bloodier Sequel

Weaving reprises her role as Grace and is joined by Kathryn Newton, who plays her estranged sister Faith. The cast is stacked with genre favorites and unexpected faces, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and legendary filmmaker David Cronenberg.

Additional cast members include Kara Wooten, Juan Pablo Romero, Varun Saranga, Masa Lizdek, Nadeem Umar-Khitab, Daniel Beirne, Antony Hall, and Olivia Cheng.

According to the official synopsis, the sequel picks up immediately after the events of the first film. Grace discovers she has entered an even higher level of the deadly game, this time with her sister at her side. Hunted by four rival families, Grace must survive, protect Faith, and claim the High Seat of a powerful council that controls the world. Whoever wins, rules it all.

Why It Earned an R Rating

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come received its R rating for strong bloody violence, gore, pervasive language, and brief drug use. For fans of the original film, that rating suggests the sequel is not pulling any punches and intends to escalate both the brutality and the dark humor.

With its original directors back, a wild new premise, and an R rating secured, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated horror releases of the year.
