Halloween Horror Nights 35 Drops Its Final Scare Zone — And It's Pure Clown Chaos
Art the Clown. Killer Klowns from Outer Space. One scare zone. Universal Orlando just unveiled its fourth and final scare zone for Halloween Horror Nights 35, and the horror community is losing its mind — for very good reason.
"Downtown Clowntown" dropped on July 24 as the exclamation point on what is shaping up to be one of the most stacked HHN lineups in the event's 35-year history. Add Hellraiser, Stranger Things Season 5, Sinners, and the return of the original clown king Jack himself, and this year's "Infernal Carnival of Nightmares" might be the hardest ticket of the fall.
Art the Clown Crashes the Party
For the second straight year, Art the Clown will haunt Universal Studios Florida — this time unleashed in the streets. After terrorizing guests inside the Terrifier haunted house at HHN 34, the silent mime killer steps out into the open-air New York area of the park for what promises to be an entirely new kind of encounter.
He won't be alone. Art is sharing Downtown Clowntown with the Killer Klowns from Outer Space and, according to Show Director Ramon Paradoa, "clowns yet to be revealed." Paradoa's own description: "Distinct boroughs filled with familiar clowns from the past, entirely new clowns, Art the Clown, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, and clowns yet to be revealed." The phrase "yet to be revealed" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, and speculation in the horror community is already running wild.
The official description paints an ugly picture: "The city that never sleeps becomes a waking nightmare when it's overrun by Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Art the Clown, and other clownsfolk who can't wait to tear you limb from limb."
35 Years, Two Icons, One Haunted House
This year marks Halloween Horror Nights' 35th anniversary — a milestone Universal is leaning into hard. The theme is the "Infernal Carnival of Nightmares," and for the first time ever, iconic rivals Jack the Clown and Dr. Oddfellow are joining forces as co-icons.
Jack has served as HHN icon six times since debuting at the 2000 event. Dr. Oddfellow — the sadistic ringmaster who took Jack in as his own — last ruled the event in 2022. Their mythology is the heart of this year's flagship haunted house: Jack & Oddfellow: Chaos & Control, an origin story told from Oddfellow's perspective that ends with the two enemies deciding that power is better shared than fought over. Their rivalry culminating in alliance opens a portal to the "Oddverse," HHN's inter-dimensional mythology framework that this year ties the entire event together.
The Haunted House Lineup Is Stacked
Nine of the ten haunted houses have been officially confirmed, with a tenth — rumored to be an Ozzy Osbourne tribute house, leaked via a Pandora radio ad — still awaiting official announcement.
What Universal has confirmed is a lineup that reads like a horror greatest hits record:
Stranger Things (Season 5) brings the final chapter of the Duffer Brothers' Hawkins saga to life, walking guests through the Wheeler House, Hawkins National Laboratory, the MAC-Z military base, and deep into the Upside Down. It runs at both Orlando and Hollywood.
Sinners, Ryan Coogler's breakout 2026 vampire film, gets a haunted house built around the Smokestack Twins' juke joint — Club Juke — where Remmick's bloodthirsty vampires crash the party.
Hellraiser is perhaps the most historic entry: the first-ever full Hellraiser haunted house in HHN's 35-year run. Based on the first three films, the house takes guests through Frank Cotton's family attic, the Channard Institute, and into the Labyrinth where Pinhead waits. And in a stunning piece of news, Doug Bradley — the original Pinhead — has recorded new voice lines for both the Orlando and Hollywood versions. After years of franchise uncertainty and rights tangles, hearing Bradley's voice command the Cenobites at HHN is the kind of fan service that lands differently.
Evil Dead Burn plunges guests into a secluded family home overtaken by Deadites. The franchise's horror DNA — chainsaws, possession, relentless gore — will translate well to an HHN environment.
H.R. Bloodengutz Presents: A Halloween Fright-Tacular! marks the beloved HHN-original horror TV host character's return after 15 years away, written and directed by Ramon Paradoa himself. Three more original concept houses — MADLANDS: Caged Cannibals, Cybergoria, and INVASION: Alien Abduction — round out the confirmed lineup.
The 35th Anniversary Is the Real Story
When HHN started in 1991 as "Fright Nights" at Universal Studios Florida, nobody was predicting 35 years of expansion, cultural influence, and genuine horror craftsmanship. The event now runs 49 nights — the most in its history — with the earliest start date ever (August 28). Universal Hollywood opens September 3.
For horror fans, Halloween Horror Nights has become as much an institution as any film franchise in the genre. This year, with the convergence of original icon mythology, A-list horror IP, and a scare zone built around two of horror's most unsettling clown figures, Universal is swinging for the fences.
