Vanny's Got a "2" in Her Eye — and September Looks Very Suspicious

The FNaF fandom has been in a frenzy since August 8, and honestly? The clues are stacking up in a way that's hard to ignore.

Steel Wool Studios dropped a cryptic anniversary teaser on Five Nights at Freddy's 12th birthday — a glitchy, unsettling clip that briefly flashes a redesigned Vanny, the franchise's most sinister human villain. Look closely at her eye, and there it is: a clean, unmistakable 2, rendered in the Security Breach font. No caption. No explanation. No comment from Steel Wool.

The community immediately lost its mind.

What Steel Wool Actually Showed Us

On August 8, 2026, Steel Wool dropped what looked like a simple "guess the character" teaser — the kind of coy, ARG-flavored content the franchise has always excelled at. But embedded in the glitch was that number, tucked inside Vanny's redesigned eye. Combined with a separate Scott Cawthon remark from 2024 that Steel Wool was working on another game after Secret of the Mimic, the math isn't hard to do.

FNaFSpectrum, one of the franchise's most-followed community accounts, called it immediately: "FNAF Security Breach 2 Confirmed. The prayers have been answered. The new Vanny teaser features a 2 in her eye, using the Security Breach font." The same anniversary reveal thread noted three major announcements in one day: FNaF World 2, Security Breach 2, and a real-life Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location coming to American Dream Mall in New Jersey. That's a franchise that is absolutely not slowing down.

The September Angle Is Genuinely Compelling

Here's where it gets interesting. The original Security Breach wasn't just a PlayStation-adjacent game — it was born on a Sony stage. On September 16, 2020, Steel Wool revealed the game at Sony's PlayStation 5 Showcase, with a co-signed PlayStation Blog post and everything. A second major trailer dropped at another PlayStation State of Play in February 2021. When the RUIN DLC arrived in 2023, it was revealed at — you guessed it — a PlayStation State of Play in September of that year.

This franchise and PlayStation State of Play events have a documented relationship. And September 16, 2026 is exactly six years after that original reveal.

Reports are circulating that Sony is planning a State of Play for September. FNaFSpectrum has noted it's "looking increasingly likely." Fans have connected the dots: a September State of Play would land almost exactly on the game's anniversary window, Steel Wool has already shown its hand with the Vanny tease, and the studio's recent track record — more on that in a moment — suggests they're ready to swing big again.

Is it confirmed? Not officially. But the pattern here is hard to dismiss.

Steel Wool Has Something to Prove — And They Proved It

Let's talk about why Security Breach 2 matters beyond the teaser. The first Security Breach (December 2021) was a genuinely divisive game. The ambition was there — free-roam horror across a massive three-story entertainment complex, Glamrock Freddy as an unlikely ally, Vanny lurking in every shadow — but the bugs and performance issues hit hard at launch. One reviewer called it "a six-lane pile-up of a game." PlayStation Blog readers still voted it December 2021's best new game, which tells you the fanbase was willing to see past the rough edges, but the critical reception stung.

Then came Secret of the Mimic in June 2025, and Steel Wool had something rare in gaming: a legitimate redemption arc. The game landed at 86% positive on Steam across more than 6,500 reviews, and a 4.61 out of 5 on PlayStation. That's not a troubled studio scraping by — that's a studio that figured out what went wrong, fixed it, and delivered.

Security Breach 2 — whatever Steel Wool officially calls it — arrives in a very different context than its predecessor. The studio has momentum. The fanbase trust is back. And Vanny, the digital ghost of William Afton living inside a rabbit costume, remains one of the creepiest villains in modern horror gaming. A sequel built on Secret of the Mimic's foundation could be something special.

What We Know vs. What We Hope

To be straight with you: Steel Wool has not confirmed the title "Security Breach 2." No PlayStation State of Play date is on the calendar. The "2" in Vanny's eye is absolutely an intentional tease — Steel Wool doesn't do accidents — but the game's official name, platform exclusivity, and release window are still locked behind whatever reveal the studio is building toward.

What's real is the teaser. What's real is the anniversary timing. What's real is that a franchise announcing a real pizza location, a sequel to FNaF World, and a second mainline game in a single day is clearly in expansion mode.

The horror gaming calendar for fall 2026 is already stacked. But if Steel Wool walks out onto a PlayStation stage in September and shows us what's actually inside that "2" — the FNaF fandom is going to break the internet.

We'll be watching.
