Resident Evil's Essential Remakes Hit Switch 2 on October 16

Your October just got a lot scarier. Capcom confirmed yesterday at the Nintendo Direct that Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition are all coming to Nintendo Switch 2 on October 16, 2026 — the same day, in a single survival horror drop that gives Nintendo fans the definitive modern trilogy at once.

Three Remakes, One Date — Here's What You're Getting

Each title is a loaded package:

Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition brings the 2019 remake of the Raccoon City nightmare along with its complete DLC — two additional Leon costumes, three Claire costumes, a deluxe Samurai Edge weapon, and a soundtrack toggle that lets you swap the reimagined score for the original 1998 compositions. RE2 has now crossed 20 million units in cumulative sales worldwide. This is a native Switch 2 port, a meaningful upgrade for anyone who suffered through the cloud-streaming version on Switch 1.

Resident Evil 3 lands as a standard edition, priced lower to reflect its shorter campaign. One note: the Resistance asymmetric multiplayer game bundled with the other platform releases is absent here. Pure Nemesis, no distractions — which, honestly, isn't the worst thing. Like RE2, it was available in cloud form on Switch 1; this is the native, full local version.

Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition is the big debut. The acclaimed 2023 remake — which many consider the best action-horror game of its generation — has never appeared on a Nintendo handheld. The Gold Edition bundles the base game with the Separate Ways DLC, which retells the story from Ada Wong's perspective and adds several hours of content that deepens the main campaign considerably. Playing this on a portable screen for the first time is going to feel special.

All three titles are digital-only at launch. Physical editions are confirmed for January 29, 2027.

Why This Matters for Horror Fans

The Resident Evil franchise has sold over 213 million units since 1996. These three remakes — RE2 (2019), RE3 (2020), and RE4 (2023) — represent Capcom's most refined, modern take on survival horror. Together they form an essential trilogy: claustrophobic corridors, limited resources, relentless enemies, and some of the best monster design in the genre.

Getting all three in one month is unusual. Capcom doesn't typically flood a platform with major titles this close together, which suggests they're betting hard on Switch 2's install base and taking Halloween season seriously. October 16 gives players two full weeks to work through at least one campaign before Halloween — and horror fans should absolutely start with RE2 if they're choosing one.

Pre-orders are live now on the Nintendo eShop with a limited-time discount. UK pricing comes in at £34.99 for RE2, £24.99 for RE3, and £44.99 for RE4.

The Switch 2 Horror Calendar Is Filling Up

With the Resident Evil trilogy locked in for October 16 and the incoming theatrical release of Zach Cregger's Resident Evil film on September 18, the franchise is having a moment. For survival horror fans who've been waiting to justify that Switch 2 purchase, this is it.
